What does Mount Monadnock mean to you? We's like to hear from you! Tell us about the day you got lost, the day you proposed to your wife on the summit. Tell us about the interesting people you met on the summit. Share with us your favorite place on the mountain. It's up to you!
My grandparents, who lived in Keene, had a painting of Monadnock that belonged to a trust. When my grandmother died, it was sold with the estate in the early eighty's. I have a photo, not a good one. I thought that it had been painted by Abbott Thayer or Phelps. It is large and really magnificent.
I would like to send the photo to someone who might know where the painting is now or if it is available for viewing.
By the way, I was born a month early in the fall of 1945 after my mother had climbed Mt Monadnock. Delivered at the Keene Hospital by my father's uncle, Dr. Walter Lacey. My memories of Monadnock include a restaurant at the top and stubbed toes as my sister and I climbed in bare feet!
